Wood Burning & Multi Fuel Stoves

Benefits of stoves

Wood burning and multi-fuel stoves have grown in popularity over the last 10 years.
What was originally a nice tohave is now a necessity to some. A stove can be installed
in any property that has a chimney. Some believe that the efficiency and reduction in
household energy bills and the benefit of burning a carbon neutral fuel is behind the
are sudden spike in installation popularity but we believe, once you have experienced
the warm hearth of your stove that gives out around five times more heat as a regular
fireplace, you will never go back to traditional heating systems.

Stoves like fireplaces have a place in the interior design world with hundreds of design’s becoming available and the chance to mould in different materials. We currently work with a number of high quality stove manufacturers such as Stovax, Dovre, Termatech, Villager/Aarrow, Yeoman and  Euroheat. We will also give advice on suitable stoves and install stoves that are supplied by our clients.

Differences between Wood Burning and Multi-fuel stoves

Wood burning stoves only used wood based fuels such as logs, chips or pellets. Although pellets and chips are better for larger surface areas and take less space to store, they do need to go through a manufacturing process as opposed to logs which are better for smaller spaces and more eco friendly. Log’s do however take more time to prepare as they must be dried out to reduce the moisture content. The ideal moisture content is around 20% for a safe burning fuel.

Multi- burning fuel stoves are stoves which can burn wood, coal and smokeless fuel. There are lots of different multi-burn stoves however it is best to check with your chimney expert as not all fuels are optimised to burn all fuels with the same effectiveness. The two main fuels, coal and wood burn in different ways. Wood burns best on an ash bed in the grate with air circulating above to disperse and coal needs air from below in the grate. Sometimes ash build up can occur after burning coal so our stoves are fitted with a riddling plate to allow more air to circulate underneath. Most people who purchase multi- burning stoves prefer to stick with the wood burning option and only use coal occasionally. However, the type of stove will depend wholly on the type of fuel that is the most easily accessible to you. Please note: Coal is not a carbon neutral fuel like wood.

ALS Chimneys recently fitted us a new wood burning stove, it took them half a day to install and I was able to use it in the evening!
